The Espresso Group informs that Ezio Mauro, Editor of Repubblica, has reached the decision to leave his position as editor of the newspaper, after having led it successfully for twenty years. He will stay on until January 14 2016, the fortieth anniversary of the launch of Repubblica, and will then continue to contribute to the titles of the Group, a contribution that will be greatly appreciated.

The Board of Directors, which met today, expressed its profound gratitude to Ezio Mauro for ensuring that the newspaper has had a prime role in the Italian and international publishing scene for its independence, prestige and innovation throughout this long and difficult period.

The Board of Directors has unanimously designated, as new Editor from January 15 2016, Mario Calabresi, currently Editor of La Stampa and a leading figure of our journalism as he has spent much of his career working for Repubblica, where he held the positions of central editor-in-chief and New York correspondent.

The Board of Directors wishes Mario Calabresi all the best for his new position.
